Aspen Matthews is a member of un underwater race. Her body is fully adapted to life under water. She and her brother were the children of the leaders of their race. These leaders, their parents, were killed by a group with a leader named Killan when Aspen and her brother were kids. Killian tried to kidnap Aspen and her brother too but they managed to escape with the ship Paradise.  The ship disappeared and when it reappeared in dock after ten years the people on board had all lost their memory, as had Aspen who was eleven then. Aspen even lost the knowledge about her being not human. Her brother was missing since. Aspen was adopted then by the captain of the Paradise, Matthews. She grew up on the land but was always enormous attracted by water and she was an excellent swimmer. Later she studied marine biology in San Diego and then got a job  at the the Deep Marine Discovery (DMD) where she could study life at the bottom of the ocean. After an accident down there she starts discovering who or what she really is.
