This game is generally
labeled as bad and poor. And that is largely true. It is an old game. One
of the earlier full 3D games. So there wasn't too much experience in this
field. The first Tomb Raider was out but the second wasn't and Deathtrap
Dungeon, the game you should compare this with instead of with a Tomb
Raider, wasn't either. So if compared to any of the older games as
one was likely to do, this game just didn't do the job. Add to that that
animation of Beth was poor and limited to just 4 combat moves and hardly
any other move (She couldn't jump, ran, climb...) and that there was no
real storyline and that there just was not much to do.
But perhaps you should compare this to a completely different kind of
game, like the old text adventures like Colossal Cave or maybe games like
Dink Smallwood. I know it sounds
funny, but that is what this game feels like. You are in these tunnels and
rooms without much eye candy on the walls and you have to pick up things,
get back en do something with it. And eat apples.
The game is not difficult. Quests are easy and most enemies are easy to
kill too. You don't find much health power ups though and you can only
save at the end of a level. So it's often wise to just ignore the
enemies and walk past them. You can't run but they can't either. And they
won't follow you through a door. The story makes use of a time machine
so you can expect a lot of strange settings. Walking through the game and
doing your thing still is fun for a while. But not really for the length of a
whole game. But anyway, that sword has to be found and well, Beth can't
help it she's locked up in a bit of a dull game. |
