Green
eyed Clara leads a mysterious life. A
few of facts about her past can be distilled out of the two manuscripts
discovered (or at least translated) so far but each of these facts just
answer one question and at the same time raise two more. Even her family name
we do not know at this time. The following events probably took place
during the nineteen thirties.
We do not know where she was born, but as a young woman she lived in a
village in North Germany, near the Baltic coast. There she was accused of
a terrible deed. Whether she was innocent or not is uncertain, but she was
found guilty by the mob and drowned in a pool. She was found shortly after
that by a young man named Koblenz. Whether he was still a student we don't
know, but he would be a Doctor later on. He took her body to his
laboratory and somehow brought her back to life.
Probably because of her having been dead, or even in maybe heaven, Clara
was of an unearthly purity. The horrors of the world couldn't hurt her
anymore. It appeared that through (or with the help of) Koblenz Clara
was able to function as a medium that could travel through time and
space.
Clara stayed with Doctor Koblenz and they
took residence somewhere on an island. She even loved him although the
doctor always kept a certain distance between them. She became his assistant
when they started a bureau of investigation. They solved problems,
mysteries. With the extraordinary powers Clara was gifted with the could
reach time and places that were unreachable for any other person.
Koblenz had mysteries too that he kept hidden for us and perhaps even for Clara.
He somehow lived on borrowed time, or perhaps more accurately on postponed
time. The payment for his help in solving mysteries were years. Like a
vampire he lived on the years of others. |
