Jessica Drew

<<<  Index  >>>

Jessica Drew was better known as Spider-Woman. There were more Spider women, but she was the first. She was born in London, England. Het father was an American anthropologist Jonathan Drew and her mother was Merriem. The family moved to Transia in the Balkan when Jessica was very young. They set out to to research, and they soon found uranium. It made them very rich. It made Jessica very ill. In order to save her life, Jonathan and his colleague scientist gave her a treatment with a new irradiated spider's blood in combination with a genetic accelerator. The treatment slowed down her aging dramatically, she had to stay in cryogenic suspension for many many years. When she was 'cured' from the radiation poisoning, mutated cells had taken possession of her body and made her very strong, immune to radiation and poisons and capable of releasing the energy in her as electricity.
Jessica became an agent for a powerful European group called HYDRA. The outfitted her with the well known red spider  costume with wings but the also conditioned her into thinking she really was a spider. Her codename was Arachne When finding out HYDRA used her as an assassinator she broke with them. She kept the suit though and called herself Spider-Woman.
She became a bounty hunter in the San Francisco area for a while and met famous heroes like Spider-man and Greer Grant Nelson, also known as The Cat or Tigra.
During one of her adventures she was rescued by a number of super heroes, one of which was Julia Carpenter, also calling herself Spider- Woman and at the end of her active career she sometimes aided a third spider-woman, the young Martha Franklin.
