Katarina DeLeon

<<<  Index  >>>

Katarina lost her mother, Mara Rousseau, when she was a kid of four. She was raised by her father  Marcus DeLeon.  Marcus was Governor of The Pirate Islands, one of five groups of islands in the Five Seas. When Marcus is killed Katarina sets out to the Five Seas with her ship Wind Dancer and her band of scoundrels to find the murderer. She also hopes to fiend the place her mother died. Katarina is better known as The Black Kat.

This is a very enjoyable game. Kat can't do many tricks with her sword, so in the end fighting becomes a bit repetitive, but that's made up by a number of other skills and weapons she has like bombs and knives. She looks good and animation is perfect. When on main screen you press on controller One L1+L2+Up+Select+L3 and on controller Two R1+R2+Triangle+Start+R3 you can choose with R3 on controller One out of eight different costumes for Kat. Well, costumes, they are bikini's or lingerie as you like. The outfit in the two fuzzy pictures, my favorite,  is code 1000.
The islands she has to explore are big and well designed. The five groups of islands in the game have all their own mood and environment. The islands you start the game with are bright and sunny and they really makes you feel happy. Reflections in the sea of the islands, the trees or Kat herself walking along the shore are beautiful. In the background at sea tall sailing ships pass by. And you know you probably has to fight them when you leave the island.
A drawback is that enemies tend to come back after you killed them, each time you turn your back on them long enough, and always at the same spot. And they're stupid. They see you or they don't. There's no way of sneaking in on them or luring them away one by one. That might work occasionally but in basic they are just triggered by a certain distance.
When you enter your ship the point of view moves to a greater distance and you can oversee you ship and the islands. Again the view is stunning and the ships well built. Fighting is well balanced too. Especially when you sink an enemy ship, the piece of film you get when that ship explodes, is very rewarding. And it's always a different film because you can see it from many angles. When you look over the side of your ship when your under attack you see big chunks of wood being ripped off our ship and you can't wait to see your own upgraded cannon balls answering  the enemies fire.
