| Mejaï
was an Egyptian poisoner in the eighteenth century. We know nothing of the
life she had in Egypt, but there are not many professions for which
one need poisonous skills. She was a proud woman, and once a deal was made
she would hunt down her pray as long as it would take. She would follow
the trail on her knees if she had to, making each contract a personal
vendetta. She was always seen accompanied by her cat, a little back devil
called Farao. We probably would never have heard
Mejaï if she had stayed in her home country, but one day she was
summoned to the residence of Monsigneur Trebaldi and his war monks in
Rome. Trebaldi was a member of one of the nine most important families Her assignment was to kill a tomb raider, an opportunist, an scoundrel named Armondo Catalin, called The Scorpion because of a scorpion-like mark he had on his shoulder. The mark of the Devil. Mejaï is a very attractive woman and she manages to come close to the Scorpion several times. She fails in killing hem each time though, even is captured by the scorpion and later is called back to her master Monsigneur Trebaldi and brutally punished for failing him. She isn't allowed to give up the mission. Death would be the price for failing again. But even if she was allowed to give up, her pride would have kept her from doing that. On her way to continue her mission, Mejaï is shortly after that taken prisoner and is raped by Rochnan, the leader of the masked war monks, as a reminder of what would happen if... He also alters her task. Instead of killing the Scorpion for Trebaldi she now is to deliver him to Rochnan alive. It becomes clear to her Rochnan and Trebaldi have different plans. So she gets on the trail once more, guided by her cat and this time her pray is caught by the war monks on her directions. She gets her payment and is allowed to leave. However, alert as a woman can be, she overhears a short conversation between two of the leading war monks. The Gypsy is to be killed immediately. With a price on her head, Mejaï is forced to escape quickly now. Together with the scorpion, who is eager to leave the castle in a hurry too, she manages to escape, although she gets badly wounded by an arrow. They now have a common enemy and are more or less forced to team up. Because Armondo usually had a lot of women in his vicinity, there was a lot of rivalry, especially between Mejaï and Ansea Latal, a member of one of the nine most important families on Earth.. |
