All
pictures (except the colored Miranda) and info on this page is taken from the introductions by the
author Peter O'Donnell for the Dutch hardcover editions of the stories 21
(The Death of a Jester) to story 44 (Brethren of Blaise).
Peter
O'Donnell also wrote a dozen novels about Modesty Blaise which are
published in several languages. In 1966 there was a movies starring Monica
Vitti as Modesty and Terrence Stamp as Willy.
One
of the problems for Peter O'Donnell was to describe for Romero how the
fighting scenes should look. In order to do it proper Peter asked the Olympic
champions Brian Jacks and Christine Child to demonstrate some moves in
combat and defense. He then took pictures and sent these to Romero. Some
of these pictures has survived.
The man on the first picture is actually Peter O'Donnell.
Peter
O'Donnell tried to find original locations for his plots. Several miles in
sea near the Thames there are these steel armed fortresses, build during
the war. O'Donnell hired a boat and took some pictures of them and from
these pictures Romero turned them in to this artwork where the action took
place in With Love From Rufus
For one reason or
another, Modesty was called in The
Netherlands Miranda until the deluxe
hardcover edition 1997.
The
series had sometimes scenes that were censored in some countries. They were
too hot, too spicy. Too outrageous piquant. Down here you see how a
screen had to be placed between Modesty and Willie and how Modesty had
to put on a T-shirt. From The Junk-Man
