Samantha Alexander, Defender.
The African-American Samantha Alexander was born and raised in a warm and caring family. But outside the family other kids never forgot to name her things or pick on her because of her mixed descent. This was tough on Samantha, but on the other hand it contributed in making her strong and aware. It was clear she had to do a lot of things alone and the hard way.

She went to the Police Academy and became a detective. She was one of the officers responsible for the imprisonment of Nathaniel Arkady. Not a very special arrest it seemed at the time, but one can never foresee all implications of certain events.
Samantha did not find the satisfaction in her profession as a detective that she had hoped to find. It seemed criminals were always at the winning side and she then became a private investigator, specialized in lost or abducted children.
Then one day a former colleague, Walt Harris, asked her to attend the execution of Nathaniel Arkady who still was doing life at the Ashcroft Penitentiary. She agreed and this decision changed her life forever.
With the electrocution of Arkady, a rift to a hellish place was opened. Spirits, imprisoned raving ghosts, poured out and started taken over any living body in the prison. Any living body but Samantha. She saw the unliving nightmare that was Ascroft Penitentiary, and she watched as Walt Harris, a man who was like a second father to her, tumbled into a Delerium of denial and was driven insane by the events of that day. She carried him out of the hellhole and helped the other imbued protect the innocents and shut down the Prison. In the events that followed Samantha, battling together with three other hunters, one of which was Kassandra Cheyung, saved a little eight years old girl, Kaylie Winter who had watched her parents being murdered by the evil creatures from hell.
The prison was sealed. For one who could see evil so clearly, like Samantha or like any of the other hunters, there was no way back to their old life though. Samantha became an ace with heavy pistols and the as deadly katana. And she kept her edge toward the weaker and the defenseless, became a master in healing and protecting the innocents.
The riots at the prison were not the last. Ashcroft would remain a center point of supernatural events, either created by unearthly powers or by the dark egoistic, rotten side of mankind.
Samantha has spent the last several years focusing her efforts on the younger victims of supernatural creatures. She's discovered that creatures who masquerade as human will often take in children under the guise of foster parents and then twist and abuse the children to their own end. She has made it a personal quest to seek out and eliminate these supernatural threats to innocents.
