Sara Pezzini

<<<  Index  >>>

Sara Pezzini, born November 18, 1970 in Manhattan, New York. Her mother died when Sara was very young. Her father was murdered. When she was a child she wanted to be a cop, like Starsky and Hutch and maybe like her father who had been a cop too. And so she became one. A homicide detective at the NYPD. Her father was dead then already. Every policeman  knew that following the rules left a lot of crime unsolved and a lot of criminals unpunished.  Sara however wanted to really hit the crooks where it hurts and so she often followed her own rules and laws. Like when they killed her good friend Maria Buzanis and Sara intends to kill the murderer instead of turning him in.
One of the most important bosses of organized crime and big business, Kenneth Irons, lives in New York too. He owns everything, including a mysterious ancient clove like weapon called Witchblade. Although he can't use the weapon he is obsessed by it and under it's influence. In order to find the person who can use it he organizes contests, hoping that one day the Witchblade finds it's owner and he, Kenneth Irons, can use the power of the weapon through that owner. By coincidence Sara Pezzini infiltrates in one of these contests and just when her partner blew their cover she comes near the Witchblade and the weapon reacts immediately. It recognizes it's owner and as soon as Sare has surrendered herself to it it revealed it's enormous power in getting itself and his wielder out of danger.
From then on Sara and Witchblade live in symbioses. She tried at first to free herself but she can't. So she learns the ins and outs of her new companion. The weapon is concealed and invisible or almost invisible when inactive, but forms a deadly harness around Sara with incredible powers when alerted. Sara has to learn to cope with all these powers, which can be lethal for her too. She also finds out that evil is if far worse than she can imagine and that organized crime and criminals are the least outings of the evil she has to fight against.
Although not really related Sara Pezzini, Lara Croft and Aspen Matthews sometimes join and can be found in the same stories.

The Witchblade

Maitae
The Witchblade holds many secrets and only a few of them are revealed by now. One of it's secrets, the most obvious one is that it can only bind to women and through history many heroic women have been the carrier of the Witchblade. Another secret is that only one pure good and pure strong woman in a generation can master it and fight for the good.
It's history on Earth  begins with the Maya. With the final days of the Maya to be more precise. The exact date of the collapse of the Maya civilization is unknown. Excavations learn that from the year 790 on all buildings and writing that was done by the Maya had lost the Maya signature. The real Maya were gone, vanished.
A tourist attraction, lead by a Maya descendant, fills in the blank, dating the terrible events 850 years earlier. In 50 BC.
The old Maya honored natural phenomenon and they worshipped many gods. With their beliefs came many rituals. Some of them extremely barbaric and brutal like the cutting out the heart of living people. There was one secret ritual, the Ritual of Cerro. In the year 50 BC, Cerro was most important Maya city. It had many temples, Temples, beautiful gardens and the king's daughter Maitea.
The Maya believed that once the Gods would come down to earth to reward the most intelligent and technologically advanced civilization. Well, their technology was unmatched on earth in these years and they were so advanced that they could precisely predict the day of arrival. And indeed, the gods, or at least people of a foreign world arrived with their divine gift. And they gave it to the world, thinking that mankind was, just as the gods, free from emotions like greed, jealousy, anger and rage. And then they left.
The Witchblade was given to the king, but is was obvious attracted to Maitea. And that attraction was mutual. Irreversible Maitea and the Witchblade were drawn to each other. And although the purpose or the powers of the gift were not clear yet to the people, many elderly including her father, the king, wanted to own it their selves.  And so the country was soon torn apart by jealousy and greed, the people fighting for a weapon that is essentially good but can create hell at the same time. In defending itself and Maitea it tore down the city and killed many people.
The gods who just had left a few days ago then turned back, realizing what mistake they had made, took all remaining Mayas and brought them to another world. Maitea and the Witchblade, who were in the process of getting to know each other, stayed behind on earth.
Since then many woman wielded the Witchblade and at many bloody events it's presence can be felt. As the Witchblade is not a machine but a living creature it adapts itself to it's wielder and when active it becomes a weapon most suitable for the woman that has to use it. For Maitea it was a sphere, for Samanthe on the picture in the left it was a sword and for Sara Pezzini a leathal gauntlet.

During the Crimean War between Britain and Turkey it was taken from his vault in the Vatican again. By then it was thoroughly studied and it was understood that instead of a weapon the Witchblade could serve a much higher goal. Part of the studie was the observation of a nurse called Florence Nightingale and it was to her the Witchblade was sent to as a gift. Florence saved thousands of soldiers and improved nursing standards throughout England. After her death the Witchblade returned to the Vatican.

1900 Pleased with the outcome of the experiment with Florence the Witchblade now was sent to the scientist Marie Curie. Like Florence before her she had no previous knowledge of the Witchblade, didn’t know of it’s potentially destructive powers and just wore it as a bracelet. She wore it on both occasions that she received a Noble Prize. When Marie was exhausted by radiation and on the dying bed the gauntlet was taken from her and brought back  to the Vatican

When she died the Witchblade stayed with her daughter, who would one day meet Kenneth Irons.
