Sophia Hawkins

<<<  Index  >>>

Sophia Hawkins is the sister of Corporal Ike Hawkins of the Nautiflyus, and she also was a stowaway on that same ship during this fatal trip. This airship was on a mission to rescue the people of Calli from a deadly disease. But before it reached it's destiny it crashed on a black hostile tower. Sophia of course could not hide any longer. Apart from the fact she dyed her hair blue and was twenty one at the time of this adventure, nothing is known about her. As ought to be the case with all stowaways.
The only other woman on the Nautiflyus was the cartographer Julia Chase

This little review of the game started at the Julia Chase page.
When finishing the game you get rewarded with a new character with which you can play the game again. You can get that character (Sophia or Karma) with a cheat code also. Well, the first time I was well into the game was with Julia Chase. After being crushed, killed, smashed and lost in the mazes for a thousand times suddenly there was Captain Lamat, waiting for me. Thinking I had escaped hell I walked up to him, expecting an encouraging word. But he just asked me if I had all the canisters of gas I was sent out for. Well, I had a few, but not enough. And before I could say "Oh shit no, but I go back to get the missing ones",  he just said something like "You failed" and bang there was that sign GAME OVER!
But eventually I made it to the end and that really was a good feeling. But I had missed some things. You see, you can collect shards which are hidden in secret places. When you find them all they fit together and form the Psygnosis logo. When in the game you don't know if you missed one. First when almost finished you know if you got them all. As I said, the first time I finished it I missed one and so I was not allowed to fully complete the game. I don't know exactly anymore, but I think you could enter a secret level only when possessing all shards.
So I started the game again, this time with Sophia. But after a while, realizing it wasn't much easier the second time, I quit. Not only because of the game, but there came other games, other things at hand, you know. And so I left Sophia Hawkins there alone in that dark forbidden tower. Maybe I'll go back to her once, when I can find the time, to rescue her, one day.
She does the same. Sometimes at night she comes to haunt me, turning my dream into nightmares.
So, not a very good game, not very original, not very fair, too tough at times... but still a special one.
At times you hate it, but each time you see the game there on the shelf between the other games you can't help but thinking, someday, when I got the time, I'll go back there.
