Her mother was Lara Kha and it was during an attack by the alliance that she gave birth to Taman and her twin brother Mano. The father is unknown, because in their world men are discarded and treated as useless, nameless and expendable. So while Mano was dumped in a terrible boy farm with no privacy or training or room for happiness, Taman got educated and trained and well treated. 
They lived on the planet Lilith, near sector 18-4. The people, only the women of course, were highly telepathic. Because there were no men in their society, the women were trained in many skills, including fighting skills. Their tightly organized society was constantly attacked by spaceships of the alliance. There was an ongoing war and the alliance regarded the amazons as their most hated enemy. Taman became a deadly Amazon warrior.  
When Taman grew older life took a number of bad turns. She learned about her brother and in secrecy managed to somehow maintain a relationship with him. She was upset however because of the condition he and all other boys had to live in. This  knowledge tore her apart. Then her mother Lara died by an attack and Taman soon found out it was her brother Mano who was responsible for it. He betrayed his people to the enemy. Somehow in doing so proving that the women were right in believing men couldn't be trusted.
